Crisis At Christmas 1978 1.jpg
Crisis at Christmas charity shelter for homeless in the disused St Augustine and St Philip's Church, Whitechapel 1978.

As many hostels close over the Christmas period Crisis have set up shelters, originally in disused churches, feeding and caring for many hundreds of homeless people over the holiday.

Although now heavily regulated, in the early days Crisis had an open door policy accepting anyone in need whether drunk or sober, using drugs or not. The anarchic, chaotic and often violent atmosphere was seen by many homeless as accepting and non judgemental, so reaching people now lost to current charitable ventures.
